My name is Thomas James Schmidt Sr. My friends call me Tommy. I am married to Holly Lynn. We started our family with our wedding on August 26th, 1989. We have nine children; 7 bio-kids and two “heart-kids” grafted into our family from Ethiopia.
We have been followers of Jesus Christ since 1991. We are kind of “progressive old-fashioned” people. That means, we believe and hold to the Scriptures as the standard for what is good and acceptable for life and faith. However, we are not legalistic. That is, we do not impose our standards and convictions on others as a means of judging them. We allow for them to grow as the Lord would lead. Encouraging them and spurring them on to love and good deeds.
We have dedicated our lives, family and ministry to the building up of the church and equipping people to love God and love others in everyday life. Our goal is to have as many people as possible reach their fullest potential bringing glory to God through living a life based on biblical principles.
We are currently serving with Youth With A Mission in Central America. (www.ywam.org is the international site) Our main ministry is serving with YWAMShips (www.ywamships.net) in Bocas Del Toro, Panama.
I have a Master of Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. Holly has a B.S. from Georgia State. You will not find criticism or critiques of the church, mission agencies or pastors here. I will try not to whine. But I will be honest about how I am feeling and what we are experiencing.
What you will get from this blog is an “inside look” into the real challenges, fears, victories and concerns that face a modern family serving overseas in missions. We hope it inspires you to live your life, wherever you are, in a way that is satisfying to you and glorifying to the One True God.
